Feedback from our current film opening

We have nearly finished our 2 minute film opening and so far we got a good feedback from our class.

The good points were:
1. Most of the people in our class like the point that they felt the emotion that our film is trying to portray.
2. They also like the melancholic and slow tempo background music because it perfectly matches to our theme.
3. They like the camera shots and types that were used in our clips

The bad points were:
1. One of the people in our class doesn’t like the font that where we placed it because of the colour was white and the background was bright so it doesn’t go with it and we might have to change it.
2. Some of the cuts for the photos was quite fast

What you are going to do as a result of the feedback:
We are going to change the time of the cuts and add more photos. We are going to add more photos and some clips to fill in the gaps. My group and I were thinking about where we are going to place the title or maybe change the colour of the font.

What have you got left to do?
We are going to do some more filming so that we have some extra clips as part of memories if we need to use them. And also we have got to add some more photos and edit them altogether. We are also going to add transitions and video effects for our clips and photos so it looks better. We need to add the credits and production company logo.

This is when we played our film opening in front of the whole class

Micro and Macro Elements

Micro Elements
The micro elements of a media text are all the technical and symbolic codes. They are all used to communicate meaning to an audience, without the need for just dialogue.
  • Camera shots & movements
  • Editing techniques
  • Mise-en-scene (actors, props, costumes, etc.)
  • Lighting
  • Sound
  • Signs (Denotations & Connotations)

Props: Dark grey and white scarf that Scarlett was wearing
Lighting: High key and Natural key lighting
Types of camera shots: Extreme long shot, long shot to mid shot, shot reverse shot, close up/mid shot, extreme close up
Camera movements: Tracking, Panning
Diagetic sound: Birds, cars driving past, talking, swings, feet walking over the wet grass
Non diagetic sound: Melancholic and slow music put in during the editing, narration of Scarlett
Location: Park

Macro Elements
The macro elements are the meanings behind the micro elements.

Props:
Having a scarf worn by Scarlett  makes her seem quite insecure about herself as she does not want to reveal her pale skin to our other main character. Also the colour may portray as to deep colours also the white may portray that she has some innocence and natural.

Lighting:
Using natural, high key lighting makes it easier for us to see the reactions on the main characters faces, also because it is a romance genre they aren't shot in dark lighting.

Types of camera shots:
Using a combination of all the shots add together to make the film seem more intimate which then fits in with our romantic genre

Camera movements:
Using a combination of the camera movements it shows both the main characters in a different world to each other.

Diagetic sound:
The way that all the micro elements come together it shows both our main characters having an intimate conversation, which then may portray as to why are they having such a deep conversation.

Non diagetic sound:
Putting on some melancholic and slow tempo music in the background adds more impact to the narration that our main character and emphasises to the audience that something bad might be going to happen to one of the main characters.

Location:
Having our film located at a park makes the theme of romance stand out even more as couples take long strolls round a park and it is thought to be a romantic place.

During the recording on the piano

This was taken during the recording on the piano in the hall at our school. Ksenia is the girl who is playing the piano, Hayley is the one  who is holding the microphone and I am the one who is doing the recording.

First we looked for melancholic and slow tempo music so it would fit in our theme. We listened for a few songs on different websites then once we find the right music we then searched the notes and chords for the piano. After we printed off the sheet, we asked one of our friends in school who is so talented at playing piano. Her name is Ksenia Gertsen, she 16 years old. It wasn’t that difficult to get in contact with her as she goes to the same school as us. We used the piano in our school and recorded it at the hall. She played really well during the recording then it did not take us long to record it as it lasted for 2 minutes only. My job was not that hard because all I did was pressing the Record button when she starts and stops playing the piano.
